Jenny Southam

Jenny studied Fine Art in Bristol. After working initially in bronze she started her career in ceramics after moving to Exeter. She works predominantly in terracotta, specialising in individual hand-built and slip decorated figurative sculptures. The cats that are exhibited here just want to flaunt their beauty, strike up a pose, saunter gracefully past and to generally be noticed. They revel narcissistically and unashamedly in their feline brio.

These cats are hand modeled with a white raku clay. They are decorated with slips, resist, sgraffito and inlay. Jenny might carry out further firings on the work with lustres or coloured glazes. They each rest upon a black honed granite base.

Jenny is a member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen and The Craft Potters Association. She accepts commissions.
